The London System position after 1.d4 d5 2.Bf4 Nf6, with White to move
London System · White to move
AI Coach
What's the plan here?
You're heading for the standard London setup: Nf3, e3, Bd3, c3. Finish developing, then look for a kingside attack or the e4 break. c4 is tempting here but it abandons the London plan entirely.

The coach

A coach that knows what you're working on.

Most AI chess tools are generic chatbots with a chess prompt. Hsichess' AI coach is built into the training flow. It knows the opening you're drilling, the position on the board, and the move you just played. Ask a question and you get an answer about your situation, not chess in general.

  • “What's the strategy behind this opening?”
  • “Why is this move wrong?”
  • “What is Black trying to do here?”
  • “What should I be thinking about in this endgame?”
coach · drilling the London System
What's the strategy behind this opening?
The London System is a solid, systematic setup for White. Your goal is to get your pieces onto a specific structure (d4, Nf3, Bf4, e3, Bd3, c3) regardless of what Black plays. Once you're set up, look for a kingside attack or the e4 break.
Why did you flag my last move?
You played Bf4 before Nf3. It's not losing, but the order matters. If the bishop comes too early, Black can answer with ...Nh5 and hit it before you're developed.
Training modes

Four modes. The coach is there in all of them.

Opening Trainer

Drill openings move-by-move, like a musician practicing scales. Ask the coach why a move is wrong and get an answer that knows the opening and position you are in.

Endgames

Practice the endgames that actually win games. Start with king-and-queen, then move into rook and pawn techniques. Ask the coach about the plan in any position.

Puzzles

Pattern recognition, sharpened. Got one wrong? Ask the coach what you missed. It sees the position and explains the idea instead of just showing the answer.

Game Upload & Blunder Replay

Upload a real game. We find your blunders and let you replay them move-by-move. Ask the coach about the position and it answers with your game as context.

How it works

Three steps to actually improve.

1.

Pick a mode

Start with an opening, an endgame, a puzzle set, or upload a real game.

2.

Train

Play it out on the board. Get instant move-by-move feedback and restart any mistake.

3.

Ask the coach

Stuck on a move? Curious about the strategy? Ask questions right there in the training UI.

FAQ

Common questions.

What makes Hsichess different from other chess training sites?+

Most sites give you content: drills, courses, puzzle sets. Hsichess adds a coach that is built into every mode and already knows what you are working on. Drill a line, then ask the coach what the plan is or why a move is wrong. The drill gives the coach context, and the coach makes the drill make sense.

Is the AI coach actually useful or gimmicky?+

It is grounded in what you are doing right now: the opening you are drilling, the position on the board, the move you just played. Ask "why is this wrong" or "what is Black trying to do here" and you get an answer about your specific position, not a generic chess explanation. It is not a grandmaster. Treat it as a strong training partner you can ask questions to.

Do I need an account to start?+

No. Try the Opening Trainer and a few puzzles with no sign-up. Sign in free to unlock all openings, unlimited puzzles, game uploads, and a dashboard. Upgrade to Pro for the coach and unlimited variations.

How much is Pro?+

$5.99 per month. Cancel anytime. Includes the AI coach across every mode, unlimited variations, full game import, and full progress history.

Is my training data private?+

Your training sessions are tied to your account and used to personalize the coach. We do not sell data or share it with third parties.

Do I need to install anything?+

No. Hsichess runs in the browser. The chess engine runs locally in your browser for analysis. Nothing is sent to a server just to evaluate a move.

From the founder

Built by one chess player.

I'm Liam. I built Hsichess because despite paying for other chess subscriptions for multiple years, I still struggled to improve. I failed to recognize the specific nuance of a given position and would resort to rote memorization, which doesn't work with chess. If you have feedback, questions, or something broke, email me directly. I read every one.
